Yep. Just look at PriceWatch if you don't believe it. Carefully compare the price of Athlon vs. P4 at equivalent clock rates (or even model ratings). Yeah, I know that the OEMs get a better price than what you see on PriceWatch, but the relative price is similar. Consider that the primary source of chips for the gray market (which is what PriceWatch is all about) is OEMs that dump excess stock...

There has been a major paradigm shift at AMD. I don't know why or how, but in this quarter they are competing on more than price. It hasn't been enough for them to show a profit, but it does mean that they will lose less money than they might have otherwise. Yeah, I'll grant you that this is different than they have done in the past, but different it is. I'll bet you that if you examine the price erosion of any processor that you choose to pick on PriceWatch, you will see that it has decreased by a smaller percentage than in any other quarter in the past two years. So what they are doing must be working...
