I believe we may not have a sell-off in the beginning of the year. Here are some reasons:

-we are in an uptrend from the Sept. lows. Money will follow that trend in early January.

-last year's drop the first couple days of January had to do with deteriorating fundamentals, a dropping market, and early tax year selling by those wishing to book long profits from positions held since 1998, IMO.

-daily charts on the Nasdaq, NDX, and many large NDX caps are pointing up, having in most cases broken their downtrends.

The missing equation is volume, and I believe we may get that on Wednesday.
