ABC reports that the ACT Government "forgot" to arrange fireworks for New Year, I was thinking that they stopped it due to the fire danger. It was weird with crowds wondering when they were meant to cheer or whatever. Reports are that crowds at outdoor new year festivities were down across Australia.

Today the fires have flared up again in strong winds and threatening various suburbs of Queanbeyan (10 miles from Canberra) and Sydney. Will get a good view tomorrow of the situation from the plane, hoping I can get into Sydney airport from here.
