FDR was not a great intellect, he was not passionate about social issues (although Eleanor pushed him into some), his economic policies mostly mis-fired ... yet he was one of our very greatest presidents. He was, above all, a magnificent, inspiring leader ... a man imbued with optimism, faith, and confidence who could instill those qualities in others, and a man of great and wise global vision. I would say that the real George W., as he emerged after 9/11, is a leader very much in the same mold.
