Lindy, I'm sure they do and it shows what a great job Uncle Green$pan and the political system and people making it happen in the USA have done for decade after decade. Which, I hasten to add does NOT mean that it is all that great - when competing with monkeys one should not be too boastful.

But one thing we can be very sure of is that the clock has not stopped ticking. There is no plateau of history. It goes on and it is easy to fall by the wayside.

With the reducing USA component of the GGP [Gross Global Product], the writing is already on the wall. Maybe the USA can maintain US$ position for another decade or two, but I would not bet any of my money on that.

Until cyberspace is ubiquitous in mobile devices and at low cost, the Q is but a gleam in my eye, but plenty of people are hot on the trail of cybermoney; 724 Solutions, PayPal and hordes of others. First will come the systems for moving US$ in cyberspace. Then will come easily transacted shares. Then it will work its way down to tiny transactions of shares with no bid/ask spread and transfer fee. It won't be an overnight surprise. It will be a slow motion movie over a decade.

The process is well underway.

Luddites always hope the past will stay with them. Sorry Lindy, you Luddites will just have to make way for the smart young things with their whizzy little cyber-gadgets. Hahah!! I bet you don't think of yourself as a Luddite. I don't think I am either, but I notice that I'm getting lazier with each new technology as the decades roll on. Give me a few more years and I'll be a fully-fledged Luddite too.

Oh for the good old days. Hmmm, come to think of it, today is a good old day. Summer, sun, sandy beach, clear water, gentle waves, birds, shiny leaves, warm [to hot], lazy, ice-cream cones, tuna sandwiches, apple and blackcurrant juice, bikinis, wearing my bright red shirt, sunnies and floppy hat with sunscreen on the back of my hands, nose and bare feet, remote-controlled gliders soaring in the gentle breeze over the hill, with curious seagulls soaring too, leisurely stroll, saying hello to people going the other way.

Life's great,
Mqurice
