To each his own Carl. I appreciate your candor on this difficult subject.

My point in asking is this... When someone claims to be an atheist, it requires a certain level of *faith*, since no proof exists either way. And the most ardent prostyltizers of faith I've seen in nearly 6 years of posting on SI are atheists. Nearly every time the subject comes up, atheists try and ridicule those who believe in God. Just take a look at the mocking tone taken here by atheists toward those who believe in God. I haven't seen anyone who believes in God criticize an atheists for his *faith*, have you?

From my perspective, they seem to want to convert everyone who believes in a creator, toward their belief that no creator exists. So yes, I can easily see how someone could view it as a religious calling.

I honestly don't care one-way or another whether someone believes in God, or atheism. And it astonishes me why a non-believer would either.

Agnostic? Well, that's another cup of tea. And I mostly agree with your premise.
