>> I think it is a bit late to ask Michael Dell to begin including a PC card bay in a desktop PC, but for a while it was probably a great concept. It would be the desktop equivalent to the PCMCIA bays found in most laptops. But I think that window of opportunity closed some time ago due to the lack of a single standard format for removable flash media. <<

Thanks Aus,

That is the type of comment I was seeking about the CFHD.

I wasn't suggesting that the consumer purchase a kit, and install the device in his PC. That is what I did.

The limitations of the CFHD are quite familiar to me. Someone estimated that the CFHD could have a lifetime of only 2 or 3 days if it were used for virtual memory in the Windows environment.

You probably are right about it being a little late for a PC manufacturer, such as Dell, to offer the CFHD as an option with their computers. The time might already have passed. Anyway, If Dell or Gateway thinks that the consumer would be interested in purchasing an IDE device to get photographs from the camera to the PC, we will know about it in due course.

One interesting thing I noticed while using the CFHD adapter was that it worked perfectly with the 5 SanDisk CF cards that I own. There was a problem with my 128 MByte RiDATA CF card, though. Whenever this card was in the CFHD adapter, the HD activity light on my PC was ON. Otherwise, it functioned perfectly, and appeared to be much faster than the older SanDisk CF cards.

Regards,

NHP
