The market is an auto feed back mechanism. Everyone responds to what they see or think they see everyone else doing. There is no "they" or to be more precise the "they" is everyone participating in the market. The market goes up sometimes because it can no longer go down at that particular point. Reasons for the market's movements are assigned afterwards but they have little or no basis in fact.
