Rather than pay for a cd why not try downloading AVG Free Edition Virus protection. Make a folder for downloads (that's what I named mine) within your My Documents folder by opening My Documents and right click on a blank spot within the folder and choose new and then folder and name it downloads. Now go to this page

grisoft.com

Click on the download free edition link and then the Download AVG Free Edition button, agree to the terms, fill out the registration and click continue and when the download window appears click save the file to disk and navigate to your download folder and click the ok or save button.

Now go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add-Remove programs applet and highlight McAfee by clicking on it and then click the remove button at the bottom right of the window. You may or may not be asked to reboot at the finish.

Hit ctrl+alt+delete keys all at the same time and the Close Programs box will appear. One at a time, click each item in the list to highlight it and then click the End Task button. When you click the End Task button, the Close Program window will close. You will need to press CTRL + ALT + DEL each time to bring it up again. If you get a message stating that a program is "Not Responding," click End Task. Do this to each running program except systray and explorer. Do not "end Task" on either of these. When they are the only two left, click the cancel button, navigate to your download folder and click on the AVG program you downloaded and follow instructions to install. Once installed you will probably be prompted to reboot. After rebooting double click the AVG icon in your Systray, clcik on update tab and the update button and you will be able to update your virus defs manually (if you didn't choose automatic updates) and any program updates.
