Israel Fortifying Borders With Jordan & Egypt
(IsraelNationalNews.com) Army and border police forces will be adding manpower along our borders to Egypt and Jordan to prevent possible terrorist infiltrations, including terrorists affiliated with Osama bin-Laden’s el-Qaeda organization.

The redeployment of forces along the borders is part of the new Southern Command plan that is awaiting final approval. The plan is being given a high priority due to intelligence data, pointing to threats along the hundreds of kilometers of “friendly borders” between Israel and Egypt and Jordan. The current situation has the intelligence and security establishments concerned regarding terrorists infiltrating into Israel along one of the so-called friendly borders that have minimum security compared to Israel’s border to Syria. The security establishment already acknowledges many infiltrations along the friendly borders by persons involved in drugs and prostitution.

Border police, patrolling the southern border from Eilat to the Dead Sea, will undertake the crux of the burden of the new security demands. In addition, the IDF is establishing new units to patrol the borders. They will operate in US-built Hummers and also ATVs (All Terrain Vehicles), permitting greater mobility in the areas.

Above the increase manpower, the security establishment is upgrading the electronic warning systems along the borders to permit earlier and more sensitive detection of penetrations.
