(NASDAQ: RFMD chart, msgs), a leading provider of proprietary radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) for wireless communications applications, announced today that it has begun production in its second Gallium Arsenide Heterojunction Bipolar Transistor (GaAs HBT) fabrication facility (fab), which is used to fabricate semiconductor wafers.
The new fab is located in Greensboro, NC on the Company's headquarters campus.
The new fab is currently equipped to produce up to approximately 25,000 to 40,000 wafers per year. When the second fab is fully equipped and operating at full capacity it is expected to be capable of producing the equivalent of approximately 210,000 four-inch wafers per year, bringing the projected capacity of the Company's two GaAs HBT fabs to the equivalent of approximately 270,000 four-inch wafers per year.
The production schedule for the second fab is programmable, and the Company plans to continue equipping the second fab consistent with demand.

RF Micro Devices is an industry leader in GaAs HBT and is the world's largest manufacturer of GaAs HBT semiconductors, which operate at higher frequencies and with better power efficiency than conventional silicon-based semiconductors, making them ideal for certain high-frequency wireless communications applications, such as power amplifiers for wireless phones.<<

This is nice, and together with JP MOrgan's bullish SOX call this morning, it got RFMD north of $22 for a brief moment. But it isn't sales yet. Looking to rehedge the unhedged portion on a litle further strength.
