how demand and prices have been holding up for the past two years and then ask yourself how things could have collapsed so badly WITHOUT a glut of capacity.

GST, for many years prices of computers went down every year. Does that mean there was a glut of PCs out there?

With the recession there is a small glut of about almost anything you can name, be it cars, hotel rooms, clothes or indeed capacity. What I just don't see is this epic oversupply of bandwidth as many commentators like to claim.

To the contrary, most of the overcapacity comments come from a crowd that does not seem to know (a) the difference between lit and unlit fiber and (b) the need to bury excess unlit capacity when you are paying to rip open the streets of Manhattan.
