I brought up the Israeli flag because in the New Yorker article, the Muslim man made statements, related to we, the readers, by the author, which read in part:
""What is the final goal of Islamic peoples everywhere?" he said. "It is to establish an Islamic state in Palestine, in Egypt, in Lebanon, in Saudi Arabia—everywhere under a single caliphate. There is no role for a Jewish state in this."
I questioned what the two blue stripes on the Israeli flag represented in light of the Muslim man's comments about their agenda for an "Islamic" state in Palestine and whether the Zionists had their own agenda for the land, formerly called Palestine.
The Star of David (Magen David?) came into the conversation, as an aside to whether the flag was in fact a prayer shawl (Tallit) since the Star of David is not orthodox symbol of Judaism, as would a Menorah be. Many fraudulent pieces of historical Judaism have been discredited because a Shield of David appearing on or in it.
As you say that symbol is a recent phenomenon, and may not qualify to be on a tradtional item such as a prayer shawl, thus disqualifying the two blue stripes as being a representation of a Tallit. |
