Bill, do you think that this ratio's reliability as a bullish indicator is due to

a) contrarian gage of investor sentiment

or

b) sellers of puts are mostly big players, who would have too much to lose in case of a crash, and therefore guard against it every which way when they have open (short) put positions. (on the other hand, in this scenario, it pays to talk up rumors of an impending crash)

???

if it's a, then trading activity would be the interesting indicator to watch; if it's b, then it would be open interest.

thoughts? (am i making sense?)
