BK, you're right, of course, and i never knew about that icon above the file menu. so thanks. what i meant however was that on my old puter, and win95, sometimes when i hit the maximize button it would stay at full page, and not return to the smaller window that i wished. so i had a choice of maximum (full page) or task bar - there was no way to resize it. what i suspect happened in that case is when i had the maximize button a second time to get to the smaller window, the window was so small that it was invisible - and i never could resize it. larry
