Re: Alternate theory to your Israeli theory on the anthrax attacks:
Cointelpro gone bad?
Well, I don't buy that Cointelpro alternate theory... See, I've finished Curt Gentry's stunning biography of J. Edgar Hoover [1895 - 1972] who was FBI Director from 1924 until his death in 1972 --that is, for 48 years!!
Cointelpro was one of Hoover's brainchildren... Hoover, like most FBI topsiders he surrounded himself with, was a Dixie, conservative, racist (granted, America's Zeitgeist was different from today's) and, as such, his pet peeves were Communists, Black troublemakers, unionists, and the like. Hence, all the cointelpro schemes were aimed at "subversive" people/outfits like M.L. King, the BPP, Hollywood's pinko celebrities, etc. I don't recall any cointelpro targeting respectable Senators (such as Leahy and Daschle), the State Department, or straight anchormen like Brokaw... Actually, in Hoover's days, even the mafia was spared (Al Capone isn't even listed in Gentry's name index). Since the mafia was deeply entangled with governors, politicos, police officers and prominent businessmen, the FBI --as a bourgeois watchdog-- couldn't possibly consider it "subversive", and, admittedly, Hoover even denied its very existence. Only when AG Robert Kennedy used organized crime as a political issue did Hoover acknowledge the problem...
Besides, Sen. Lieberman had better think twice before following in McCarthy's footsteps --after all, that boozer met such a tragic end...
