Snowshoe, the Taleban had no-poking-fun rules. I'm sure that many Americans were opposed to slavery, especially the slaves. The great thing about freedom is the ability to poke fun at pretentious cant. You can do it in Hobbitland and the USA, which is one reason they are pretty good places to live, though the USA tends to teutonic seriousness [MAD Magazine notwithstanding].

Why not poke fun at the hypocrisy of what actually happened and happens despite those words? Self-important people are insufferable and need to be poked with fun - it helps them stay human, like we alienated aliens. If they get too puffed up, they might go pop!

<We conceive it our indispensable duty to revive the lamentable grievance of that oppressed people in your view as an interesting subject evidently claiming the serious attention of those who are entrusted with the powers of Government, as Guardians of the common rights of Mankind and advocates for liberty.

We have long beheld with sorrow the complicated evils produced by an unrighteous commerce which subjects many thousands of the human species to the deplorable State of Slavery.

There's not much distinction between aliens and real people there. I suppose I'm a Quaker at heart. Gimme that good ol' QUALCOMM, Quaker and Q-cash.

3Q rulz OK.

It's not so much the words I'm poking fun at but the failure to live up to them. For example, Unclewest wanting compulsory freedom to be conscripted to serve those in charge of the press-gang. There are many examples where deeds haven't matched the words.

Thanks for the link; interesting!

With the USA tending to become more and more dominant, and the extension of Pax Americana, which I'm in favour of, the interface between real people and aliens is going to become important and handling the subhumans correctly will be crucial. The words and actions will need to match to avoid giggling and even uppity uprisings.
