Lim--During the boom period of 1999, many analysts and portfolio managers displayed an astonishing lack of interest in or lack of understanding of the strengths of QUALCOMM. It is no different today. They can't understand that the most popular wireless equipment company today makes plastic cases to house QUALCOMM chipsets (Nokia). Nor can they understand why GSM/TDMA based systems are uneconomical compared with CDMA.

While it is true that some people can make a little money by going with the flow (i.e., trend), other people can make a lot more by recognizing the inherent strengths of a company, regardless of what the analysts think. Some people assume this is an efficient market. Others know that it is at best an imperfect market.
