First, it was less than a million, second they were not driven, nor massacred and buried in mass graves, they left, the great majority in the false hope, the Mufti of Jerusalem and other Arab leaders of the time, promised them, that they'll be back in months, third, the same numbers of Jewish residents were, as you call it, "ethinically cleansed" from all the Arab nations around. The way I see it, it is a simple population exchange as was practiced between Turkey and Greece.
