Jim nothing intended just wanted to bring to light just how close to home and real some of these stories can be. When it comes to making a decision in the healthcare field it can be very hard on the family not only do they have to deal with the acute crisis situation, but now have to have a say in the further treatment of the patient. Although difficult it is so very important that we all have a living will so that your wishes will be followed. This should also be discussed with the family so that they know ahead of time. Working emergency medicine my whole life I have encountered many difficult times for doctors patients and family taking the time to make a living will can make the process much smoother and help the family cope better. Sometimes we need to take a step back and really I mean really put ourself in the patients position and then decide is our decision a purely selfish one.

These are just some thoughts not meant to pass judgement or dampen the spirits of the board. Life is a gift that we often take for granted. Some think they are invinceable and eventually end up in the back of a rescue truck or maybe even hold on long enough to make it to the ER and if they survive that, go on to only do it again. It's like when we throw good money after bad we know we shouldn't but we still take the risks.

My occupation has enabled me to see more in one day than most people will see in their lifetime some good but most bad. It really makes you appreciate what you have. It is a sad state of affairs when we have armed forces trauma surgeons and doctors do their wartime injury training in our local ER's.

PS- yes I bought some more IRAC too............ lol
