Re: if we extrapolate, Depreciation for FY01 should be ~$4B (give or take).

That's why I used that number (note that using historical values would have made Intel look worse).

Intel has been claiming $7.5 Billion for CAPEX for the past two years, note that extrapolating the first 3 quarters of this year to cover the whole year yields a CAPEX of $8.25 Billion for the year.

By the way, I did use Edgar for my numbers, as well as considering Intel's projected CAPEX from conference calls. I think you'll see that I was reasonable about the way I presented the numbers. I could have pointed out that they've spent $20 Billion in 3.75 years while accounting for only $12.3 Billion of those costs.

But I think it's most reasonable to accept their statements that their CAPEX will be running about $7.5 Billion (despite the $8.25 rate at which it's been running), and to use the $4 Billion per year depreciation their cost recognition has risen to.

[regarding a move to SOI] most of the consumers who use a computer really could not care less which process technology the uP in their computer use

Intel has said it would need SOI to control leakage and reduce power consumption.
