Anarchism, like libertarianism and communism, are wonderful theories that are based on total misconceptions of human nature. Maybe someday man will evolve to not needing government but that hasn't happened yet.
Democracy is problematic, too. My husband says that if you want to see democracy in action, consider the lynch mob. The whole crowd is voting to kill the victim, and only the victim is voting the other way. So that's why we have constitutions, and legislatures, and checks and balances, and all that.
I just found out a couple of days ago that a lawyer whom I admired and respected a great deal embezzled $200,000 from a client. This is a shocking, terrible crime, and I am very hurt and saddened by it, especially because the person who committed it violated the victim's trust, and even more because he was someone I trusted, myself. If people like him can commit crimes like that then I am a bad judge of character. He used to be a judge, too.
So, no, anarchism isn't anything more than a pretty idea. We can't all live in peace without policemen and armies. |
