fixing redhat 7.2 to boot. Red Hat Linux release 7.2 (Enigma)
I installed redhat 8.0 on system half.
system has rev 4 number nine card. redhat detected ok.
but I was using a sgi sw1600 with digital interface. x config does not know monitor. I did not what to wade thru and figure out how to set up
Xfree Xserver again.
So on reboot system go to whatever freq and sw1600 cannot display.
I could just connect a good analog monitor to boot once and fix boot to
character mode.
But I decided to try rescue. So I booted with rescue and root partition is mounted as /mnt/?????
I edited /etc/inittab and changed line
id:3:initdefault: use run level 3 and not level 5 which starts X as deamon.

I then installed or replaced Xfree X with xig 6.0 Set up sw1600 OK
must remember to do install and Xsetup with -text flag.

ran gnome manager. a lot of nice stuff but doggy as hell
I added fvwm 1.24r rpm to window list and got it to come up once under gnome. but after I quit I could not get gnome to come up with any kind of window manager.

I edited /etc/X11/xinit

added exec fvwm.orig orig is just fvwm that's moved to fvwm.orig
add it after ther merge stuff.

Systme now boots ok with boot floppy and fvwm comes up normal.
