Merrill Lynch Expands Relationship With StorageNetworks Into JapanGlobal Financial Leader to Leverage StorageNetworks' Industry-Leading Data Storage Management Software Throughout More of its Operations
BUSINESS WIRE - January 07, 2002 08:07
WALTHAM, Mass., Jan 7, 2002 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- StorageNetworks, Inc. (NASDAQ: STOR), the world's leading provider of data storage management software and services, announced today that it has expanded its relationship with Merrill Lynch and will be providing data storage management services to the financial leader in Tokyo and Makuhari, Japan.

StorageNetworks has been working with Merrill Lynch in the New York metropolitan area for nearly two years, implementing a storage area network (SAN) and providing ongoing storage management services and software for the financial firm. Through these services, StorageNetworks enables Merrill Lynch to have a scaleable and highly available data storage infrastructure, one that will be replicated in Japan.

StorageNetworks(R) STORos(SM) software management platform helps Merrill Lynch gain greater control of its assets and automate storage management tasks such as provisioning and change and event management. StorageNetworks STORvision(SM) and the Virtual Storage Portal(SM) software are two key applications Merrill uses to effectively manage its multi-vendor storage infrastructure.

"Over the past two years, we have been very pleased with the results of our work with StorageNetworks in New York," said Chris Corrado, CTO, Global Technology Infrastructure Services for Merrill Lynch. "They played a critical role in our migration to, and ongoing management of, a SAN environment. Their technology and commitment to customer support and service was particularly invaluable to us in the hours and days following the World Trade Center attacks. We look forward to extending this same excellence to our Tokyo-based operations."

Immediately following the September 11 disaster, StorageNetworks' Customer Support Center and field operations staff worked with Merrill Lynch to protect its existing data, implement escalation procedures, optimize data restoration and rapidly provision new storage. StorageNetworks' STORos software platform was a critical component in Merrill's ability to resume trading on Monday, September 17.

"Our expanded relationship with Merrill Lynch is the very positive outcome of our work together in New York and the tangible results we have achieved: driving down costs and complexity while increasing efficiency and availability in Merrill's data storage environment," said Peter Bell, Chairman and CEO of StorageNetworks
