Choose if you will to continue your crusade of pinning blame and shame on your neighbors ... do it with a healthy dosage of personal insults ... and rest assured that I will be around to constructively and helpfully refute the worst of your excesses and mischaracterizations.

I hope we can find a middle road to discuss the tragic and horrific decisions that we have made in the past, continue to make in the present, and will most likely be faced with in our future.

I also hope that life holds more purpose for us than just fighting to survive as long as possible. Most of the discussion on the A bomb has had to do simply with survival. How many more people would survive the war if this action is taken rather than that one. War isn't about survival of the individuals involved. It is the use of violent force to maintain or advance political ideals and boundaries.

As an instinctual response, I would probably battle to the death a villain coming through my bedroom window just to survive the episode. I like to think, I would also risk my life, if I believed doing so would stop a heinous crime or serious miscariage of justice. I like to think I can live to devote my life to worthy causes and that my survival in such a course is worth fighting for. Patriotism to a Nation of ideals and founded on righteous principle is worth fighting for when despots threaten to dismantle us. When this brings us to consider such options as the A bomb, it is tragic because the consequences are horrendous. The responsibility for bringing death and destruction is broad. Decisions made on our behalf that include bringing death to others...even one other person...should be weighed under the humblest of regret, not under confetti.
