ARAB LEADERS READY TO SUPPORT U.S. OPERATION AGAINST SADDAM January 7, 2002

Ha’aretz reports: “Middle East leaders are prepared to support a United States operation to remove Iraqi President Saddam Hussein from power. According to a report published in the New York Times on Sunday, the leaders would support such a move, provided that it would be a swift operation which would take place in the near future.
The report said that the quick toppling of the government in Kabul, coupled with the speed in which the new government was assembled, renewed discussions on whether or not to expand the war on terror to countries known to harbor terrorist organizations.

Specialists quoted by the Times stated that the speed of the Afghanistan operation, in all of its aspects, have alleviated fears regarding a possible U.S. strike against Saddam. According to the report, the war on terror has established worldwide momentum against those who support terrorism. It goes on to say that very few of the Arab leaders would be sorry to see the end of Saddam and his government…”
