UF,
re: I'm getting some great 5X7 prints from the Canon S110. As far as I'm concerned, 2.1 mega pixels is more than adequate for the snapshot crowd (me). Aren't there are a raft of them being offered for under $100?
Never underestimate the frugality of the average US consumer. The low end folks are used to cameras under $40, and probably won't budge until they see those price points, technology be damned. They won't rationalize that they won't need to buy film, they are just thinking Camera/Cost. After they get a cheap digital, then the light bulb may go off, and they may upgrade.
re: The best things about digital photography are being able to take dozens of shots to get one good photo without having to consider film cost, and instant gratification. Imo, it's going to be a huge winner at the mass consumer level.
I agree, it's as inevitable as typewriters being replaced by word processing programs. You just have to bring the technology to the mass market price point, they will buy the quantities that allow lower COGS. Then everyone benefits (X/ companies tied to emulsion photography).
You sound very excited by your new digital camera, are you putting some of your investment dollars with your hobby dollars?
