>>For a fraction of the price, I can have it all with an iMac.<<

All in all the iMac is a nice thoughtfull machine that scares me. It's a consumer machine for sure. It's not upgradeable at all. Processor, HD or screen. I don't like that idea at all. That 15" LCD might be looking like a postage stamp in two years. It's a great machine from a tactical point of view but a worrysome machine from a strategic point of view.

What really scares me is the slow decline of Mac processing power in relation to AMD or Intel processors. Of course I know the arguments but the reality is that the process continues slowly but surely. High end PCs now do even video faster than Macs. It was bad at a 2x difference (500Mhz vs 1Gig AMD/Intel) but now it's getting close to a 3x difference. PCs have been using DDR and Rambus for some time now.

If much faster processors were going to be available in the near future Jobs would have announced it. That means there's nothing even on the near horizon. Something MUST be going very wrong at Motorola for there to be ABSOLUTELY NO G4 or G5 announcements.

If nothing changes soon the raw power of PC chips will overshadow the hassles inherent using the Microsoft OS and that will be a dark day. Let's hope they've got an announcement in their pockets.
