>>All in all the iMac is a nice thoughtfull machine that scares me. It's a consumer machine for sure. It's not upgradeable at all. Processor, HD or screen. I don't like that idea at all. That 15" LCD might be looking like a postage stamp in two years. It's a great machine from a tactical point of view but a worrysome machine from a strategic point of view.<<

Doren -

The original iMac was not upgradeable either, and people complained about that on this very thread, yet Apple has sold more than six million of them in four years. Some of those sales were to people who had already bought one, and wanted an upgrade. A new machine was the only way they could get it. Strategically, I think it's a great move.

Just FYI, the computer users you're worried about, the ones who want $500 machines, don't upgrade them piece by piece. They aren't sophisticated enough to do that. They buy new computers.

I still do want to see faster towers, and I'd be very surprised not to get them sometime soon. Jobs wouldn't preannounce them and kill sales of the current line. We'll know they're on the way when stocks of the present systems begin to dry up.

PS: I'm also still pretty sure that there will be an Apple PDA in the near future. That's an area where brilliant design and execution can add value, and Jobs knows it.
