I'm not the one who made claims that MMs don't involve themselves in illegal activities. The MM I quoted gave me good reasons to believe her and it made sense in light of her position and income. Whether she's unique or the norm, I have no way of knowing....this was my only point. I'm not being naive, just objective. I like to see reasonable proof when people are accusing others. If you could be put in jail over the likely-hood of wrongdoing we'd all be in jail.

I can tell you from running a small business that is impossible to comply with all laws because there are conflicting interpretations of existing laws. I share your disgust with businesses that are basically set up to illegally take money from people, but the bulk of what the securities industry takes from people is the result of doing their job within the legal framework, people hand over their money to them.
