Some (hopefully) interesting thoughts...

The P3 never went above 1.0GHz for any length of time on 0.18 micron... it's now at 1.4GHz on 0.13 micron, that's a 40% bump in speed already.

The P4 made it to 2.0GHz on 0.18 micron. A 40% pop over that is 2.8GHz. Intel's stated goal is to reach 3.0GHz by the end of the year. Based on how far (and how fast!) been able to ratchet up P3 speed on 0.13 micron, that goal seems VERY attainable at this point.

AMD had better pray that SOI lives up to all of the hype and more, or they're not going to be able to keep up with the P4 in any meaningful way...
