"Although better than expected demand for P4s has caused a short-term supply shortfall, it is
our impression the company believes it has sufficient capacity coming on-line in 2002 to
meet current projections, especially with two 300mm fabs, D1C (Oregon) and F11X
(Arizona) coming up in 1H and 2H, respectively. In addition, we have heard the company
has restarted Fab 24, in Ireland, for 2003. As a result, we would expect overall capital
spending to drop from about $7.5 billion in 2001 to about $5.5-6.0 billion in 2002, with
equipment spending to be slightly down.
