Why evwap isn't being used

Forrester Research in Cambridge, MA finds that the top three factors for why a firm buys
technology are reliability, compatibility with current systems, and customer support.

Things like best technology and even price fall much further down the list. Leading-edge
technology only ranked 13th among the 19 factors given by businesses for their
purchasing decisions.

The latest technology is rarely the thing that creates the most business value. You have
to have good support. You have to have compatibility. It has to work. It has to be
reliable and available. If you have the latest technology, and it's flaky and the vendor
doesn't support you, and it doesn't work with what you've got, there's just not a lot of
business value there.

I think a lot of companies, particularly new companies, tend to fall down on one of the
three criteria. They may be great at fitting it in with what you have, but they don't
support the product. Or it may be reliable, but it's new and doesn't fit with the existing
infrastructure.
