Intel Demonstrates Leading-Edge Technologies for PCs, Notebooks and Handhelds at CES 2002

LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 8, 2002--Intel Corporation will show the latest technologies for desktop PCs, notebooks and handheld devices at the 2002 International Consumer Electronics Show.

At booth no. 331, Intel will exhibit desktop PCs and applications running on the Intel® Pentium® 4 processor at 2.2 GHz, the world's highest-performance processor introduced on Jan. 7. The company will also offer technology demonstrations of notebooks running on the Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor-M, which will be introduced in the first half of 2002. More than 25 demonstrations will feature the latest PCs and notebooks from leading manufacturers.

``Consumers are at the center of an exciting digital world where they have the ability to create, share and enjoy music, movies, photography and games on their PCs anytime, anywhere,'' said Ann Lewnes, vice president, Intel Sales and Marketing Group, and director of Consumer Marketing. ``From the desktop to the notebook to the handheld device, Intel's processor and other core technologies deliver the performance and reliability to make these experiences possible.''

The Pentium 4 processor at 2.2 GHz arrives at a time when nearly 450 million people use PCs that run at 700 MHz or less. While those PCs were state-of-the-art four years ago, they pre-date the MP3 revolution, streaming video on the Internet, recordable DVDs, and the online gaming phenomenon. Starting today, consumers can buy PCs based on the Pentium 4 processor at 2.2 GHz and Microsoft's Windows(a) XP operating system from computer makers worldwide.

Intel will demonstrate never-before-seen prototype notebooks based on the upcoming mobile Intel Pentium 4 Processor-M. This processor will have all of the performance attributes of its desktop counterpart, as well as innovative low-power mobile technologies that help maximize battery life. Due in the first half of this year, mainstream notebooks based on this processor will provide consumers with the highest levels of laptop performance. Many of these mobile Pentium 4 Processor-M-based notebooks will feature wireless technologies including 802.11 and Bluetooth enabling anytime, anywhere communication.

In addition to PC technology, Intel will showcase handheld and 2.5 and 3G wireless products from several industry leaders including Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, NEC and Casio. All the devices feature Intel's industry-leading proprietary component technologies including Intel® StrongARM and Intel® StrataFlash technologies.

Intel's StrongARM processors provide the computing strength behind personal digital assistants (PDAs) like the Compaq iPaq(a) and HP Jornada(a) and the ``Mira''-enabled device from ViewSonic(a) that will extend the Windows PC experience to anywhere in the home. Cell phones, including the NEC FOMA N2002(a) phone, which runs on the world's first 3G (third-generation) wireless network in Japan, also feature the high performing, low power Intel StrongARM processor and allows a rich multimedia experience while saving battery life.

Intel will also exhibit its line of home networking products. Intel® AnyPoint(TM) Wireless II home networking enables consumers and small office users to connect wirelessly any combination of desktop and notebook PCs for quick and easy resource sharing. The AnyPoint Connection Manager software makes it possible for mobile users to connect wirelessly to the Internet at home, work and technology ``hot spots'' like airport lounges and hotels.

Intel, the world's largest chipmaker, is also a leading manufacturer of computer networking and communications products. Additional information about Intel is available at www.intel.com/pressroom.
