I don't see how it could discredit Northwood. Megahertz is an industry standard way of measuring the clock frequency of a processor.

Quantispeed, on the other hand, is a half a$$ed way of making up for poor marketing on AMD's part. Instead of dispelling the notion that megahertz alone does not equal performance, AMD offers the end user a new number, which doesn't have a concrete way of being measured, and which has no direct comparison to other micro-architectures, allowing the number to be chosen quite arbitrarily.
