The Sun vision of computing attempts to remove as much complexity
from the client as possible. This is necessary for commodization. Since the number of clients vastly outnumbers the number of
servers, isn't this the way it must be? It certainly is the way the public telephone network works. But if we left it up to Gates we would have part of the switching technology included in every phone device. When the telco companies upgrade their services every phone device would require an upgrade too. Pretty nonsensical, isn't it?
