Tyan to blame for AMD dual problems

3Com guiltless - end users suffer
By Mike Magee, 09/01/2002 08:03:30 BST

MOTHERBOARD MANUFACTURER Tyan is to blame for problems that cause driver conflicts between 3Com's 3C996 Gigabit Ethernet adaptors and its AMD dual processing boards.
Last year we reported problems that caused dual Athlon crashes when using the adaptors, at which time it was apparent Tyan was blaming 3Com for the problem. (See 3Com boards cause dual Athlon crashes.)

But it's now pretty apparent that it's Tyan itself which is to blame for the glitch, according to sources close to 3Com.
In an attempt to iron out an end user's problem, 3Com said that it had not developed a patch that would solve conflicts between its 3C996-T and Tyan dual boards, whatever the motherboard maker said.

Tyan has refused to address our reader's problem, instead sending him an autoreply.

So maybe it's time for AMD to step in - after all these are supposed to be robust platforms for two way microprocessing - so if 3Com can't solve it and Tyan doesn't appear to want to, maybe the firm which makes the chipset can resolve it before it starts hitting its nascent MP biz. µ
