All reports from Brazil and Argentina are that the SuperCenters
have been so busy that the parking lots have a 2 hour wait to get
in. Wal-Mart, as you noted, has already grabbed a big chunk of
Canadian sales and, from what I've heard, Mexico is far from a
disaster--there were some initial mistakes that were immediately
corrected and the company is doing fine with the Cifra business--
although that's a Mexican company that's considered to be one of
the best run in that country, Wal-Mart's marketing expertise has
made it into a much bigger success than it already was. From the
BW and other stories, it appears the other overseas ventures have
learned from past mistakes and are now doing fine. That "small
profit" you mentioned is actually quite a big success in itself--
the fact that they're profitable so soon is a good sign. Further
estimates are that WMT will be doing 40% of its business overseas
in the next few years. Also, Wal-Mart is still building a lot of
SuperCenters in major metro areas where it lacks a presence; judging
by the new ones in Southern California, there'll always be WMT.

:)
