Charlie,
Re -- Of course the price cuts are in response to competition.

You do know for sure don't you. Check Intel's history of price cuts when there was competition and no competiton, and the price cuts on an old processor when a new processor is introduced.

Re -- As for the theory that Intel is trying to spur demand: (1) actually, it is AMD and Cyrix who are doing just that by supplying high performance chips for PC's that will be priced under $1000.

Show me a K6 or a Cyrix 6x86 system which sells for $1000. I will on the other hand show you a whole host of vendors which sell pentium systems (lower clock speed) for $1000. Furthermore the 1 or 2 chips that AMD and cyrix sells (this in comparison to Intel's sales) is really a non issue this year.

I suggest you get informed on Intel's history and the market place, before you make such comments.
