US refuelling plane crashes in Pakistan

A US military plane has crashed in Pakistan.

The KC-130 refuelling plane crashed shortly after take-off, just over a mile from Shamsi airfield near Quetta.

Pentagon officials said there is no evidence the plane has been brought down by hostile fire.

White House spokesman Ari Fleischer has provided no information about a possible cause or casualties.

He says the aircraft went down in an airfield which has been used by coalition forces during the campaign in Afghanistan.

He said the Defence Department is investigating and George W Bush is aware of the crash.

The KC-130 is a £25 million plane routinely used by the Marine Corps for in-flight refuelling of helicopters.

It is also used for troop and cargo delivery, evacuation missions and special operations support.

It carries a six-man crew of two pilots, a navigator, flight engineer, mechanic and loadmaster.
