RE:"Even if they had hit all their targets they may have sold an extra million or two of Athlons. So market share wise they wouldn't be any better off but ASP wise they would have and at this point in time they may have had an extra billion or so in the bank"

Let's just go back a year.
1. Palomino (Due Q1) delayed. In Q3 AMD ends up having to trash ASPs to sell t-birds. Had AMD had the Palomino AND the PR rating in place in Q2 they may not have lost money in Q3. What happened is that AMD goes into the Christmas buying season in transition. The markets tank, bottom lines get trashed at OEMs and the safe play is Intel only. Meanwhile Intel stuffs the channel and Palominos dissappear from retail from October until now. Looks a lot like the environment when AMD had the "late mask fix" debacle with the K6-2 CRT core.

2. Hammer delayed a year. This is really sorry. What an opportunity AMD had. Rather than scramblin' 24 hrs a day to get it working, they gave everyone a bonus and they went to lunch.

3. So all the advantage AMD had 2 years ago is gone, zilch ...and AMD has worked themselves back into a Mhz/PR AND a process loser.

4. If for some reason AMD can pull a decent Q out of the hat with record sales it will be a mircale.

5. Also appears that the OEMs want little to do with the AMD PR rating. They cover their arse by stating the true Mhz of the chip yet they are happy to sell you a P4 w/SDRAM at a nice premium.
