BioReliance sees 1st qtr net below 4th qtr

ROCKVILLE, Md., Jan 9 (Reuters) - BioReliance Corp., which conducts clinical
trials for drug companies, on Wednesday reaffirmed earnings projections for the
fourth quarter and full-year 2001, and said first-quarter 2002 profits would be hurt
by employee salary increases and higher tax rates.

BioReliance (NasdaqNM:BREL - news) expects to earn between 15 cents and 19 cents per share for the first
quarter of 2002, lower than estimated fourth-quarter earnings of 21 cents to 26 cents per share.

The company expects full-year 2002 profits of 90 cents to $1 per share, up from projected 2001 EPS of 62 cents to 67
cents, which the company reaffirmed on Wednesday.
