Z, <The only reference to this that I've seen in publication is the anecdote on the Inquirer of Intel engineers taking apart the Athlon and finding smaller gate lengths than one would expect on .18. Of course, they are Intel engineers, and also, we all know just how infallible the Inquirer is.>

AMD did it before when they intro'd Athlon. They used a hybrid 0.25/0.18u process to help boost the frequencies of the original Athlon, just before the real 0.18u Athlon was released.

We can assume AMD is doing the same thing, but this time with an 0.18/0.13u process. The only question is, will AMD do the same thing with an 0.13/0.09u hybrid process? Fin says they can't, but then again, we all know Fin is one of us no-good Intel-a-bees. ;-)
