Winnie, check out this wonderful news about Hammer!

2.4.9 Based x86-64 Linux Kernel Snapshot Released

Now you, too, can run your Hammer processor in 64-bit!

x86-64.org

"Changes against the previous snapshot:

Now based on linux 2.4.9
Some files merged with the i386 port.
ACPI is enabled again
Many driver fixes
A floating signal stack frame bug in the i386 emulation has been fixed
Some bug fixes to the i386 emulation
Some minor cleanups.

Caveats:

SMP currently still non functional"

Of course, they seem to be having a few problems. And that's interesting, too, because I always heard that it would be trivial to port software to x86-64.

By the way, didn't Intel demo McKinley last Spring running on several operating systems with 4 processors in SMP and heavy DB2 database work?
