ESS Technology Introduces Memory Stick Compatibility With ESS's Vibratto DVD Chips

Memory Stick Adds Another Dimension to Enjoying Digital Home Entertainment

FREMONT, Calif., Jan. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ESS Technology (Nasdaq: ESST - news) a leading provider of silicon solutions for digital video, digital home systems, and home networking solutions announced today plans to develop new DVD solutions that are compatible with the Memory Stick(TM) memory card developed by Sony. This is ESS Technology's latest effort to bring additional methods of displaying top-quality digital images on its Vibratto(TM) DVD processors. Demonstrations of Memory Stick (MS) data displayed on a DVD player will be given by ESS Technology at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas from January 8 through January 11, 2002.

Memory Stick is ideal for use in a variety of digital consumer electronics appliances and personal computers. An 8MB Memory Stick stores up to 160 VGA- quality digital images. An Erasure Prevention Switch helps prevent stored data from being accidentally erased, and a rugged 10-pin connector ensures foolproof insertion. It has Original Serial Protocol for forward compatibility with higher capacity models to be developed in the future.

Memory Stick is designed to allow users to transfer information, such as data, text, music, graphics or digital images from one electronic device to another quickly and easily. Since its introduction in the fall of 1998, Memory Stick has steadily picked up market share. Shipments for MS media and MS products were both over 15 million worldwide by the end of October 2001. Memory Stick is available at consumer electronics retail outlets across the country. Memory Stick works in most new DV and MiniDV camcorders and digital cameras. Besides digital imaging products, it can be found in many portable audio players, in such formats as CD, MP3, and WMA.

Patrick Ang, executive vice president and COO at ESS Technology stated, ``By being the first to integrate Memory Stick technology with our DVD solutions, we reinforce our position as the market leader. We are glad to add our name to more than 50 product categories that showcase Memory Stick compatibility. Consumers will now be able to download music or images from their PC using Memory Stick as the storage media, and play it on their DVD players. With Memory Stick's compact size and increasing popularity, we think our customers will embrace this new platform.''
