LOS GATOS, Calif., Jan. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Identix Incorporated (Nasdaq: IDNX), the worldwide leader in providing fingerprint biometric authentication, security, and identification solutions, announced today that five new airports have selected its Live Scan fingerprint biometric technology for rapid processing of employee background checks. These five airports are in addition to the five new airports Identix announced last week, bringing the total number of airports to select Identix' Live Scan technology to-date to 31. The Company also said that Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) has ordered a second Identix Live Scan TouchPrint(TM) 2000 Applicant Fingerprint Systems (TP 2000 AFS) to assist RDU in processing employee background checks on a timely basis.
Pennsylvania's Harrisburg International Airport; Norfolk International Airport in Virginia; Quad City International Airport in Moline, IL; and Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Meyers have each ordered one Identix TP 2000 AFS to assist the airport in complying with the Aviation and Transportation Security Act. Installation of the Identix Live Scan systems at each airport is expected to take place by the end of January 2002.
The Company also said that Buffalo Niagara International Airport has adopted its Live Scan technology for assistance in rapid processing of employee background checks. New York law enforcement agencies currently use Identix Live Scan systems for processing criminal suspects and have transferred two Identix systems to the Buffalo Niagara Airport to assist the Airport in complying with the Aviation and Transportation Security Act. Identix expects to upgrade the systems for FAA compliance by the end of January 2002.
These orders follow the signing into law of the Aviation and Transportation Security Act by President Bush on November 19, 2001, which requires that every current and prospective airport and airline employee with access to secure areas undergo a criminal history background check. The Company believes this requirement applies to the estimated 750,000 total airport and airline employees in more than 400 airports throughout the nation. |
