Monthly Sales
For the four weeks ended December 29, 2001, same store sales rose 6.8 percent over the prior-year period. Pharmacy same store sales were up 10.5 percent, while front-end same store sales were up 2.6 percent.
Total drugstore sales for the four-week period rose 5.2 percent to $1.333 billion compared to $1.267 billion for the same period last year. Prescription revenue accounted for 54.9 percent of drugstore sales, and third party prescription revenue represented 92.4 percent of pharmacy sales.
Year-to-Date Sales
Same store sales for the 43-week period ended December 29, 2001, increased 8.1 percent, consisting of an 11.3 percent pharmacy same store sales increase and a 3.5 percent increase in front-end same store sales.
Total drugstore sales for the 43 weeks ended December 29, 2001 gained 6.4 percent to $12.441 billion from $11.696 billion in last year's like period. Prescription revenue accounted for 61.0 percent of total drugstore sales, and third party prescription revenue was 92.0 percent of pharmacy sales.
Rite Aid Corporation is one of the nation's leading drugstore chains with annual revenues of more than $14 billion. On December 29, 2001 Rite Aid operated 3,581 stores compared to 3,733 stores in the like period a year ago.
