Keith: Re: <<``This agreement combines QUALCOMM's innovative software application, QChat, with Nextel's strong track record of offering unique services, such as Direct Connect,'' said Dr. Irwin Mark Jacobs, chairman and CEO of QUALCOMM. ``QUALCOMM's CDMA QChat software combined with Motorola's infrastructure will enable the creation of a global community of Direct Connect users. For instance, a Direct Connect customer in Boston will be able to instantly communicate with a Direct Connect customer in Beijing.'' >>

The last sentence of Dr J's (Irwin Mark Jacobs)may seem absurd to you, and you might even be right, but while how this may work is obscure here so far on this thread, I would suggest that we may well find that it is technically feasible that "a Direct Connect customer in Boston will be able to instantly communicate with a Direct Connect customer in Beijing" someway somehow at some point in the future after the required hardware and software are in place and functioning properly.

Dr J chooses his words carefully.

We don't know how long this might take or how this could be done yet, but I for one doubt Dr J chose his language or his example lightly.
