I think many auditors sit in the conference room, flip through the reports the company prepared for them, go "hmmmmmmmmmm...." a lot then sign off on the audit and submit their bill.

Just a guess, based on no personal experience with audits at all. But someone is clearly not turning over any stones in their best client accounts.

It certainly happens in some US government office inspections.
