DOMTAR INC - Cogeneration Plant At Domtar's Mill Inaugurated
Toronto, Ontario, (Market News Publishing via COMTEX) -- Domtar Inc. proudly inaugurated on Oct 26, 2001, the cogeneration plant at its Windsor (Quebec) mill. This achievement reflects Domtar's desire to maximize rational energy use in order to reduce operating costs and thus maintain the company's competitive edge.

Building the cogeneration plant at Domtar's Windsor mill has been a longstanding project, whose successful completion thus marks a highly important step for the mill. Built at a cost of $23 million, the cogen plant will supply an average 25,000 kW annually-that is, 30% of the mill's total consumption. By way of comparison, a single-family home uses approximately 20 kW annually-meaning that the Windsor cogeneration plant could supply some 1250 single-family homes with electricity for an entire year.

By using bark biomass as a fuel source for its energy needs, Domtar once again stands out as a leader in environmental management.

Domtar is the second largest producer of uncoated freesheet paper in North America and the third largest in the world. It is also a leading manufacturer of business papers, printing and publishing papers, and specialty and technical papers. Domtar manages close to 36 million acres of forest land in Canada and the United States, and produces lumber and other wood products. The company also has a 50% investment interest in Norampac Inc., the largest Canadian producer of containerboard. Domtar has 12,500 employees across North America.
